§1553. Violations or furnishing liquor to prisoners

If any jail keeper violates section 1552 or voluntarily or negligently allows any prisoner in custody, charged with or convicted of any offense, to have any intoxicating liquor, unless the physician authorized to attend the sick in that jail certifies in writing that the prisoner's health requires it and prescribes the quantity, the jail keeper forfeits $25 for the first offense and $50 for the 2nd offense. These forfeitures shall be recovered for the county by indictment, or by persons suing therefor, to their own use. The jail keeper shall be removed from office and may not hold the office of sheriff, deputy sheriff or jailer for 5 years. [1987, c. 737, Pt. A, §2 (NEW); 1987, c. 737, Pt.
