§14227. Qualifications; barbering

A person is eligible to obtain a license under this chapter for the practice of barbering if that person: [1991, c. 397, §6 (NEW).]

1. Age. Is at least 17 years of age;

2. Education. Has satisfactorily completed the 10th grade in a secondary school or its equivalent;

3. Training. Has satisfactorily completed a course of instruction in barbering of 1,500 hours in not less than 9 months in a school licensed by the director or has experience in the practice of barbering as a trainee of 2,500 hours distributed over a period of at least 18 months; and

4. Examination. Has passed an approved examination .

B. Within 90 days of notification of passing an examination, the applicant must pay the fee as set under section 14238 to receive a first license. [2007, c. 402, Pt. HH, §13 (AMD).]

Any person licensed as a cosmetologist pursuant to this chapter and who has satisfactorily completed a course of instruction in barbering of at least 500 hours in a school licensed by the director or has experience in the practice of barbering as a trainee of at least 900 hours is eligible for examination.
