§7701. Emergency use of party lines; refusal to surrender; penalty

1. Surrender of party line required. Any person using a party line shall surrender it on request to another person who needs the line to report a fire or summon police, medical or other aid in case of emergency.

2. Offense. A person is guilty of unlawful interference with a party line if that person:

A. Intentionally or knowingly refuses to surrender the use of a party line to another person in accordance with subsection 1; or [2003, c. 452, Pt. T, §1 (AMD); 2003, c. 452, Pt. X, §2 (AFF).]

B. Requests the use of a party line on pretext that an emergency exists, knowing that an emergency does not exist. [1987, c. 141, Pt. A, §6 (NEW).]

3. Penalty. Unlawful interference with a party line is a Class E crime.
