Section 58. The commission shall employ a director who shall be exempt from chapter thirty-one and the position of director shall be classified in accordance with section forty-five of chapter thirty and the salary shall be determined in accordance with section forty-six C of said chapter thirty. He shall be appointed with due regard to his fitness, by reason of aeronautical training and knowledge of and recent practical experience in aeronautics, for the efficient exercise of his powers and duties. He may be removed from office only by the affirmative votes of four members of the commission. Such duties as the commission shall deem expedient may be delegated to the director.
