Preference ratings for veterans.

36.220. 1. In any competitive examination given for thepurpose of establishing a register of eligibles, veterans,disabled veterans, surviving spouses and spouses of disabledveterans shall be given preference in appointment and examinationin the following manner:

(1) A veteran, or the surviving spouse of any veteran whosename appears on a register of eligibles who made a passing grade,shall have five points added to his or her final grade, and hisor her rank on the register shall be determined on the basis ofthis augmented grade.

(2) The spouse of a disabled veteran, whose name appears ona register of eligibles and who made a passing grade, shall havefive points added to his or her final grade, and his or her rankon the register shall be determined on the basis of thisaugmented grade. This preference shall be given only if theveteran is not employed in the state service and the disabilityrenders him or her unqualified for entrance into the stateservice.

(3) A disabled veteran, whose name appears on a register ofeligibles and who made a passing grade, shall have ten pointsadded to his or her final grade, and his or her rank on theregister shall be determined on the basis of this augmentedgrade.

2. Any person who has been honorably discharged from thearmed forces of the United States shall receive appropriatecredit for any training or experience gained therein in anyexamination if the training or experience is related to theduties of the class of positions for which the examination isgiven.
