Promotional register.

36.320. 1. The director shall establish and maintain suchpromotional registers and registers of eligibles for the various classes ofpositions subject to this chapter as the director deems necessary ordesirable to meet the needs of the service. On each promotional registerand register of eligibles, the eligibles shall be ranked in the order oftheir ratings given for the purpose of establishing or replenishing such aregister.

2. The time during which a promotional register or register ofeligibles remains in force shall be one year from the date on which it isofficially established by the director; except that, before the expirationof a register, the director may by order extend the time during which suchregister remains in force when the needs of the service so require. In noevent shall the total period during which a register is in force exceedthree years from the date on which the register was originally established.The director may consolidate or cancel promotional registers and registersof eligibles as the needs of the service require, and as authorized by theregulations.

3. In circumstances where there is a continuous need for substantialnumbers of eligibles for a certain class of positions, the director may,after first establishing such a register, replenish the register from timeto time by inserting the names of additional eligibles who are found to bequalified on the basis of determinations similar to those used as a basisfor establishing the original register. The method for establishing,replenishing, and canceling such a register shall be determined by theregulations.
