85.012. 1. After August 28, 1999, municipal fire departments maycontract with a private company to provide fire protection service only ifa majority of voters of the municipality authorize such action at a publicelection.
2. The ballot of submission shall be in substantially the followingform:
Shall the municipality of .......... (insert name of municipality)contract with a private company for the provision of fire protectionservice? â ã Yes â ã No
3. If a majority of the votes cast on the proposal by the qualifiedvoters voting thereon are in favor of the proposal, then the ordinanceshall be in effect as provided in this section.
4. If a majority of the votes cast on the proposal by the qualifiedvoters voting thereon are opposed to the proposal, then the municipalityshall have no power to contract with any private company for the provisionof fire protection service.
