Employee leave for adoptive parents and stepparents, when.

105.271. 1. An adoptive parent who is employed by the state ofMissouri, its departments, agencies, or political subdivisions, may use hisor her accrued sick leave, annual leave, or the same leave without paygranted to biological parents to take time off for purposes of arrangingfor the adopted child's placement or caring for the child after placement.The employer shall not penalize an employee for requesting or obtainingtime off according to this section.

2. A stepparent, as defined in section 453.015, RSMo, who is employedby the state of Missouri, its departments*, agencies, or politicalsubdivisions, may use his or her accrued sick leave, annual leave or thesame leave without pay granted to biological parents to take time off tocare for his or her stepchild. The employer shall not penalize an employeefor requesting or obtaining time off according to this section.

3. The leave authorized by this section may be requested by theemployee only if the employee is the person who is primarily responsiblefor furnishing the care and nurture of the child.
