Commissioner ofeducation--appointment--qualifications--compensation--removal.

161.112. The state board of education shall appoint a commissioner ofeducation as its chief administrative officer. The commissioner shall be acitizen and resident of the state upon assumption of his or her duties, andshall possess an educational attainment and breadth of experience in theadministration of public education. The board shall prescribe the dutiesof the commissioner and fix the commissioner's compensation, and may removethe commissioner at its discretion.
