School districts may provide hospital and medical coverage forstudents, when.

162.063. Any school district may, upon adoption of aresolution by a majority of its entire board of directors,designate specific school sponsored programs of instruction andextracurricular activities which the board believes presentunusual physical hazards to students involved therein. Upondesignating a hazardous program the board may authorizeexpenditure of school funds to purchase hospitalization andmedical insurance covering students while engaged in the program,but said purchases of insurance shall be limited to instanceswherein it has been determined by the board that the purchase ofthe same would constitute a financial hardship to the person orpersons responsible for the support of the student. A schooldistrict purchasing insurance pursuant to this section shall notbe obliged to purchase insurance for all activities which it maydeem to be hazardous. All insurance under this section shall beawarded on a bid basis.
