Orientation and training requirements for board members initiallyelected or appointed.

162.203. 1. Board members initially elected or appointedunder section 162.291, 162.459, 162.471, or 162.581 after August28, 1993, in addition to the qualifications prescribed in thosesections, shall successfully complete orientation and trainingrequirements within one year of the date of the election orappointment. The orientation and training shall consist of atleast sixteen hours with the cost of such training to be paid bythe district.

2. All programs providing the orientation and trainingrequired under the provisions of this section shall be offered bya statewide association organized for the benefit of members ofboards of education or be approved by the state board ofeducation.

(1996) Contingent referendum provision was found to be an unconstitutional delegation of legislative authority thereby making section 143.107 void. Akin v. Director of Revenue, 934 S.W.2d 295 (Mo.banc).
