High demand occupations and areas, board's duties.

173.781. By August 28, 1998, and by June first of each yearthereafter, the board shall designate occupational areas of high demand inthe state. The board shall also designate professions and skill areasdirectly related to the areas of high demand, and the degree programs orcertifications directly leading to employment in such areas. In makingsuch designations, the board shall consult with the department of labor andindustrial relations, the department of economic development, and privatesector business and labor groups. The board shall also consult with otherprivate and public agencies and individuals with expertise related to labormarkets, geographic and demographic analysis, and solicit input frominterested parties throughout the state, in order to ensure that:

(a) The diverse needs of the state are considered; and

(b) That these designations reflect the broad, long-term economic,educational, and public policy interests of the state in both the publicand private sectors.
