County commissions and municipal assemblies authorized to act.

184.260. For the purpose of carrying out the provisions ofsections 184.250 to 184.270 the county commissions of the severalcounties and the municipal assemblies of the said cities areauthorized to erect said buildings, monuments or tablets and todo all things necessary to carry out the provisions of sections184.250 to 184.270. Such county commissions and municipalassemblies are hereby authorized to appropriate funds for suchpurpose and to receive, manage and expend funds donated for suchpurpose and to make all contracts and purchases, including theacquiring of real estate, necessary in the premises. It shall bethe duty of the county commissions of the several counties and ofthe municipal assemblies of said cities, under the supervisionand with the assistance of the adjutant general and in the formto be prescribed by him, to collect and file in such memorialbuilding, or in the office of the county clerk of such county orother suitable place designated by the county commission, or insuch place as may be designated by the municipal assemblies ofsaid cities a record of the soldiers, sailors and marines who, ascitizens of said county or city, served in the war againstGermany and her allies and it shall be the duty of said countyclerk and of the custodian designated by the municipal assemblyof said city to safely keep and preserve such records properlyindexed for ready reference thereto.
