Furlough of prisoners, when--time limitations, exceptions--waiverrequired, when--notice requirements.

217.425. 1. The director may extend the limits of the placeof confinement of an offender who, he has reasonable cause tobelieve, will honor his trust, by authorizing the offender, underprescribed conditions, to visit specifically designated placeswithin the state for a period not to exceed thirty days per yearand to return to the custody of the department. The authorityherein conferred may be exercised to permit the offender to visita relative who is ill, to attend the funeral of a relative, toobtain medical services not otherwise available, to contactprospective employers and to participate in approvedrehabilitation programs. If the offender is enrolled in acommunity release program or in need of emergency medicalservices, the thirty day per annum limitation may be extended atthe director's discretion.

2. A copy of any order of the director shall be sent to thecircuit judge, sheriff and prosecuting attorney of the county orcircuit attorney of any city not within a county from which theoffender was sentenced and the county of the proposed visit atleast ten days in advance of such order except in the case of anorder permitting the visit to attend the funeral of a relative orfor an emergency medical furlough.
