High seismic risk area data--duties of department.

256.175. 1. The department shall furnish to the stateemergency management agency technical data, including soilliquefaction and seismic effects, on structural foundations thatare located in a high seismic risk area. If requested by alocal government entity the department shall assist such localgovernment in the establishment of construction standards basedon the data provided in this subsection.

2. The department shall be designated as the lead technicalagency in the state to conduct studies concerning the geologiceffects of earthquakes, which shall include, but not be limitedto, prediction of earthquake recurrence intervals and severity,tectonic and structural geologic studies, paleoseismic studies,geodetic surveys, and geomorphological studies.
