Transfer of commercial vehicle registration plates authorized inbusiness ownership sale or transfer.

301.442. Whenever a business is sold by the owner thereofand as part of the sale the ownership of one or more commercialmotor vehicles is transferred, or whenever an individual orpartnership transfers ownership of a business and commercialmotor vehicles owned by him or them to a corporationsubstantially owned by him or them in a nontaxable transfer underthe provisions of the United States Internal Revenue Code, theoriginal owner of any such vehicles may transfer the registrationplates issued for such vehicles to the new owner who, uponnotification to the director of revenue of the sale or transferof ownership of the business and transfer of the registrationplates, may use those registration plates for the remainder ofthe current registration period as if he, they, or it hadoriginally purchased the plates. The director may prescribe thenecessary forms for use in making the notification and mayrequire that the notification be made under oath.
