Turns at intersection--violation, penalty.

304.341. 1. The driver of a vehicle intending to turn at anintersection shall do so as follows:

(1) Right turns. -- Both the approach for a right turn and a rightturn shall be made as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edgeof the roadway.

(2) Left turns. -- The driver of a vehicle intending to turn left atany intersection shall approach the intersection in the extreme left-handlane lawfully available to the traffic moving in the direction of travel ofsuch vehicle and, after entering the intersection, the left turn shall bemade so as to leave the intersection in a lane lawfully available totraffic moving in such direction upon the roadway being entered.

(3) The highways and transportation commission or local authoritiesin their respective jurisdictions may cause official traffic-controldevices to be placed within or adjacent to intersections and therebyrequire and direct that a different course from that specified in thissection be traveled by vehicles turning at an intersection, and when suchdevices are so placed no driver of a vehicle shall turn a vehicle at anyintersection other than as directed and required by such devices.

2. It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to turn suchvehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction at any intersectioncontrolled by a traffic signal or police officer; nor shall such turn bemade at any place unless the movement can be made in safety and withoutinterfering with other traffic. The driver of a vehicle shall not turnsuch vehicle around so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon anycurve or upon the approach to or near the crest of a grade, or at any placeupon a roadway where such vehicle cannot be seen by the driver of any othervehicle approaching from either direction along the roadway within adistance of three hundred feet, or where the same may create a traffichazard.

3. No vehicle in a residence district shall be turned left across theroadway or so as to proceed in the opposite direction when any othervehicle is approaching from either direction where the same may create atraffic hazard.

4. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 304.361, violation ofthis section is a class C misdemeanor.
