Definitions.

324.475. For the purposes of sections 324.475 to 324.499, thefollowing terms mean:

(1) "Acupuncture", the use of needles inserted into the body bypiercing of the skin and related modalities for the assessment, evaluation,prevention, treatment or correction of any abnormal physiology or pain bymeans of controlling and regulating the flow and balance of energy in thebody so as to restore the body to its proper functioning and state ofhealth;

(2) "Acupuncturist", any person licensed as provided in sections324.475 to 324.499 to practice acupuncture as defined in subdivision (1) ofthis section;

(3) "Auricular detox technician", a person trained solely in, and whoperforms only, auricular detox treatment. An auricular detox technicianshall practice under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist. Suchtreatment shall take place in a hospital, clinic or treatment facilitywhich provides comprehensive substance abuse services, includingcounseling, and maintains all licenses and certifications necessary andapplicable;

(4) "Auricular detox treatment", a very limited procedure consistingof acupuncture needles inserted into specified points in the outer ear of aperson undergoing treatment for drug or alcohol abuse or both drug andalcohol abuse;

(5) "Board", the state board of chiropractic examiners established inchapter 331, RSMo;

(6) "Committee", the Missouri acupuncture advisory committee;

(7) "Department", the department of insurance, financial institutionsand professional registration;

(8) "Director", the director of the division of professionalregistration;

(9) "Division", the division of professional registration;

(10) "License", the document of authorization issued by the board fora person to engage in the practice of acupuncture.
