Definitions.

383.100. As used in sections 383.100 to 383.125, the following termsmean:

(1) "Director", the director shall be the director of the department ofinsurance, financial institutions and professional registration;

(2) "Health care provider" includes physicians, dentists, clinicalpsychologists, pharmacists, optometrists, podiatrists, registered nurses,physicians' assistants, chiropractors, physical therapists, nurseanesthetists, anesthetists, emergency medical technicians, hospitals, nursinghomes and extended care facilities; but shall not include any nursing serviceor nursing facility conducted by and for those who rely upon treatment byspiritual means alone in accordance with the creed or tenets of anywell-recognized church or religious denomination;

(3) "Medical malpractice insurance" means insurance coverage against thelegal liability of the insured and against loss, damage, or expense incidentto a claim arising out of the death or injury of any person as a result of thenegligence or malpractice in rendering professional service by any health careprovider.
