Fine commuted to imprisonment, when--fine payable in installments.

543.270. 1. When any person shall be unable to pay any fineand costs assessed against him, the associate circuit judge shallhave power, at the request of the defendant, to commute such fineand costs to imprisonment in the county jail, which shall becredited at the rate of ten dollars of such fine and costs foreach day's imprisonment.

2. When a fine is assessed by an associate circuit judge, itshall be within his discretion to provide for the payment of thefine on an installment basis under such terms and conditions ashe may deem appropriate.
