590.080  Specifications for motor or lubricating oil.

      1.  Except as otherwise provided in subsection 2, crankcase drainings, lube-distillate, or any other petroleum product may not be sold, offered for sale, delivered, offered for delivery or stored as a motor oil or lubricating oil for use in the crankcase of an internal combustion engine unless it conforms to the performance rating set forth on its container and the following specifications:

      (a) It must be free from water and suspended matter when tested by means of centrifuge, in accordance with the testing procedures approved by the State Sealer of Weights and Measures.

      (b) The flash points for the various viscosity grade classifications must not be less than the following when tested by the Cleveland Open Cup Method in accordance with the testing procedures approved by the State Sealer of Weights and Measures. Except as otherwise provided in this paragraph, the viscosity grade classification number of motor or lubricating oils must conform to the latest Society of Automotive Engineers viscosity classification. Grade numbers 60 and 70 must conform to the requirements listed in this paragraph.
