The board of mayor and aldermen, or the corresponding governmental body of any city or the local legislative body of any town is hereby empowered and authorized to establish minimum construction standards for manufactured housing used as dwellings in the city or town, by adopting by reference any nationally recognized code for manufactured housing that has been printed as a code or any portions thereof, or any amendments to such code, to apply to all manufactured housing manufactured on or after January 1, 1964; provided that upon adoption of such ordinance wherein such code or portions thereof have been incorporated by reference, there shall be filed 3 copies of such code in the office of the building inspector, if any, and 3 copies in the office of the city or town clerk. All copies of any code filed as provided herein shall be for the use and examination by the public.
