If the amount due for the rent or use of a box or safe in the vaults of a domestic corporation authorized to engage in the business of letting vaults, safes, and other receptacles shall not have been paid for 6 months, such corporation may cause to be mailed, postpaid, to the person in whose name such safe or box stands upon the books of such corporation and at his address as stated on said books, a notice stating that if the amount then due for the use or rent of such safe or box shall not be paid within 60 days from the date of such notice such corporation will cause the safe or box to be opened in the presence of an officer of such corporation and of a notary public, and the contents thereof, if any, to be sealed up in a package and placed in one of the storage vaults of such corporation.
