40A:9-89.  Board of chosen freeholders to furnish accommodations and equipment for register of deeds and mortgages    The board of chosen freeholders shall provide the register of deeds and mortgages with a suitable fireproof place separate and distinct from the office  of the county clerk, together with suitable furniture and equipment, all of  which shall be the property of the county.  The board shall also provide said  register with the necessary books and stationery.  The records and documents in  the office of said register shall be open to the public at all reasonable  hours.
