§302A-706  Teacher national boardcertification incentive program.  (a)  There is established within thedepartment the teacher national board certification incentive program torecognize and support exemplary teaching practice by supporting public schoolteachers who have achieved national board certification under the certificationprogram of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  The teachernational board certification incentive program shall provide:

(1)  A $5,000 bonus per year for each public schoolteacher who maintains current national board certification;

(2)  $1,500 upon completing the certification programof the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards;

(3)  A reimbursement of the remainder of the nationalboard certification application fee upon achievement of national boardcertification; and

(4)  An additional $5,000 bonus per year for eachpublic school teacher who maintains current national board certification andwho teaches at:

(A)  A school that is in restructuring underthe No Child Left Behind Act, Public Law 107-110;

(B)  A school with a high turnover rate, asdetermined by the department;

(C)  A school that is not making adequateyearly progress, but is not in restructuring under the No Child Left BehindAct, Public Law 107-110; or

(D)  A hard-to-fill school, as determined bythe department.

(b)  The incentive program shall include amentoring component that encourages and enables national board-certifiedteachers to assist other teachers and share their teaching expertise. [L 2004,c 51, §38; am L 2007, c 228, §1]
