Chapter 12.--CITIES AND MUNICIPALITIES
Article 29.--INTERLOCAL COOPERATION

      12-2909.   Same; enforcement of city ordinances by sheriff; sheriff's approval.(a) The board of county commissioners of any county and the governing bodyof any city located within the county may enter into a contract providingfor the enforcement of the city's ordinances by the sheriff of the countyor other officers of the sheriff's department. Any contract entered intopursuant to this section shall be submitted to and approved by the countysheriff. Failure of the sheriff to approve a contract within 30 days ofits submission shall constitute disapproval thereof. All monetaryconsideration paid by a city to a county as part of the contract shall beexpended by the county solely for law enforcementpurposes. The sheriff and any officers of the sheriff's department assignedresponsibility for enforcing a city's ordinances under thecontract shall be designated therein and shall have all the powers of anyother police officer of the city by virtue of theexistence of the contract.

      (b)   A contract entered into pursuant to this section shall not be regardedas an interlocal agreement under the provisions of K.S.A. 12-2901 etseq., and amendments thereto.
