13-2416. Same; members; election; term; vacancies; bonds.If the election of a waterworks board has been approved by a majority ofthe voters at such election, the mayor of such city shall thereupon issue aproclamation for an election of the members of such waterworks board. Thesaid waterworks board shall consist of five members to be nominated andelected by the city at large. The provisions of article 17 of chapter 13 ofthe General Statutes of 1935, pertaining to the election and removal ofofficers, shall govern except as to the time of the first primary andelection. The three candidates securing the highest number of votes at theelection shall hold office for the term of four years and the twocandidates receiving the next highest number of votes shall hold office fora term of two years, thereafter the term of each member of the waterworksboard shall be for a term of four years.
The members of the waterworks board shall take office within fifteendays after their election and that part of the year until May first shallcount as a full year of office. In case of a vacancy in the office of anymember of the waterworks board, the remaining members of the waterworksboard shall appoint a successor to hold office until the next city electionis held at which time a successor shall be elected to fill the unexpiredterm of such member in the same manner as original elections are made. Themembers of the waterworks board shall serve without pay or compensation ofany kind or character. Each member of said board shall give a good andsufficient surety company bond in a sum to be fixed by the governing bodyof such city, conditioned for the faithful performance of his or herduties. The cost of said bond shall be paid out of the revenue of thewaterworks department.
