19-1204. Custody and recording of documents.(a) The register of deeds shall have custody of and safely keep and preserveall the books, records, deeds, maps, papers and microphotographs depositedor kept in the office of the register of deeds. Theregister of deeds shall also record, or cause to be recorded, in aplain and distinct handwriting or in another legible manner, insuitable books or other accessible format tobe provided and keptin the office of the register of deeds, all deeds,mortgages, maps, instruments and writingsauthorized by law to be recorded in the office of theregister of deeds andleft with the register of deeds for thatpurpose, and shall perform all other duties as are required by law.
(b) The register of deeds shall have the option of recording all suchdeeds, mortgages, maps, instruments and writings under this section: (1)In books as provided in subsection (a), (2) on computer disks, tapes orother electronically accessed media in accordance with K.S.A. 45-501,or (3) in another manner authorized by statutein accordance with the provisions thereof.
