Chapter 19.--COUNTIES AND COUNTY OFFICERS
Article 3.--COUNTY CLERK

      19-303.   Vacancy in office of county clerk, how filled.If a vacancy in the office of county clerk should occur by death,resignation, or otherwise, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment of aqualified elector of the county in the manner herein provided. If thevacancy occurs on or after May 1 of the second year of the term, the personso appointed shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term and untila successor is elected and qualifies. If the vacancy occurs before May 1 ofthe second year of the term, the person appointed to fill the vacancy shallserve until a successor is elected and qualifies at the next generalelection to serve the remainder of the unexpired term. Nomination andelection of such successor shall be in the same manner as nomination andelection of a county clerk for a regular term. Appointments hereunder shallbe made in the manner provided by law for filling vacancies in the officeof member of the house of representatives.
