Article 1.--STATE AND OTHER AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES AND FAIRS

      2-131f.   Ellis county; acquisition of land for fairground expansion;petition; election.The board of county commissioners of Ellis county, upon request of the officiallyrecognized county fair association in Ellis county, and upon making a determinationthat it is in the best interest of the county to expand its fairground bythe acquisition of additional land which is adjacent to the fairground,may adopt a resolution to acquire such land. The resolution shall be publishedonce each week for three consecutive weeks in a newspaper of general circulationin the county. After publication, the board of county commissioners mayacquire such land for expansion of the fairground unless a petition requestingan election upon the proposition signed by electors equal in number to notless than 5% of the electors who voted at the last preceding regular countyelection, as shown by the poll books, is filed with the county electionofficer within 60 days following the date of the last publication of theresolution. In the event a valid petition is filed, no such land shallbe acquired without such proposition having been submitted to and havingbeen approved by a majority of the electors voting at an election calledand held thereon. The election shall be called and held in the manner prescribedfor the calling and holding of elections upon the question of the issuanceof bonds under the general bond law.
