Article 1.--STATE AND OTHER AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES AND FAIRS

      2-137.   Forfeiture of benefits and recognition;exemption;discontinuance during wartime.Any county fair association organized and operating under the provisionsof this act failing to hold a fair each year shall forfeit all benefitsprovided in this act, including recognition by thesecretary of agriculture, and the secretarymay, upon application, recognize some other qualified fair in the same county,as provided in K.S.A. 2-127, and amendmentsthereto. Upon application of the president and secretary, approved by theboard of directors of any recognized fair association, thesecretary of agriculture, for good cause shown, may exemptsuch fair association from the provisions of this section for thecurrent year, in which case the fair premium fund for that year shall be usedto pay premiums for the next succeeding year's fair, and no levy shall be madefor the next succeeding year's fair in excess of the limitations provided inK.S.A. 2-129, and amendments thereto.During the emergency resulting from the United States being engaged in war,county fair associations, as recognized by thesecretary of agriculture, may discontinue holdingsuch fairs until the next regular fair date following a twelve monthsperiod after the termination of such emergency.
