20-122. Same; names and addresses of attorneys; certificate evidencingqualifications and voting; separate envelopes; preservation of ballots andcertificates.The clerk of the supreme court may use the roster of attorneys inthe clerk'soffice licensed to practice law in Kansas for ascertaining the names and placesof residence of thoseentitled to receive ballots and for ascertaining the qualifications ofthose nominated for membership on the commission. The clerk shall supplywith each ballot distributed a certificate to be signed andreturnedby the member of the bar voting such ballot, evidencing the qualificationsof such member of the bar to vote, and certifying that the ballot wasvoted by the certifying voter.
To the end that the vote cast may be secret a separate envelope shall beprovided for the ballot, in which the voted ballot only shall be placed,and the envelope containing the voted ballot shall be returned in anenvelope, also to be supplied by the clerk, together with the signedcertificate. No ballot not accompanied by the signed certificate of thevoter shall be counted. When the voted ballots are received by the clerkthey shall be separated from the certificates by the canvassers, and afterthe ballots are counted and the results certified both the ballots and thecertificates shall be preserved by the clerk for a period of sixmonthsand no one shall be permitted to inspect themexcept on order of the supremecourt. At the end of such six months period the clerk,unlessotherwise ordered by the supreme court, shall destroy them.
