Article 3.--COUNTY AIRPORTS

      3-307a.   Airport commission; terms; vacancies; removal; office space. Whenever the board of county commissioners of any county operating underthe provisions of K.S.A. 3-301 to 3-307 and any acts amendatory thereof orsupplemental thereto, shall determine, by resolution, that it is in thebest interests of the county to place the supervision and jurisdiction ofany public airports operated by the county under an airport commission, theboard may appoint such a commission of five (5) members, residents of thecounty, who shall not be elected officers or employees of the county, butshall be well known for their integrity. The chairman of the board ofcounty commissioners shall, with the approval of the board, appoint onecommissioner to serve for a term of one (1) year, two commissioners toserve for terms of two (2) years each, and two commissioners to serve forterms of three (3) years each; and thereafter as the terms of the membersexpire, they shall be appointed in the same manner for three (3) year termsand until their successors are appointed and qualify. In case of a vacancyin office, a member shall be appointed by the board of county commissionersin the same manner to fill the unexpired term caused by the vacancy.

      Any member of said commission may be removed by the board of countycommissioners for the same cause justifying removal of any appointiveofficer.

      Members of the airport commission shall receive no compensation fortheir services but may be reimbursed for necessary expenses incurred in theperformance of their duties under this act or the act of which this is actis supplemental and amendatory. The board of county commissioners shallprovide a meeting place for the airport commissioners and suitable officespace and supplies for any employees of such airport commission.
