Chapter 6. Law Enforcement Training Conferences

Training programs
Sec. 1. (a) The department may conduct training programs atsemiannual conferences for law enforcement:
(1) officers;
(2) trainees; and
(3) applicants;
of cities, towns, and counties.
(b) A semiannual conference:
(1) may not last more than three (3) days; and
(2) shall be conducted at a state police post.

Training program supervision; subjects
Sec. 2. (a) The training program courses shall be conducted underthe supervision and direction of the superintendent.
(b) The training programs must include courses of instruction inthe following subjects:
(1) Detection, pursuit, apprehension, and conviction ofcriminals.
(2) Safety and first aid assistance.
(3) Any other subject the superintendent considers appropriate.

Per diem and traveling expenses
Sec. 3. (a) A city council shall appropriate, as necessary,sufficient funds to pay for each mile traveled to and from theconferences, at a rate equal to the rate paid to state officers andemployees. The rate per mile shall change each time the stategovernment changes its rate per mile. The city council also shall paya per diem for expenses of not more than fifteen dollars ($15) a dayfor each day or part of a day an authorized person is in attendance ata conference.
(b) A county council shall appropriate sufficient funds to pay foreach mile traveled to and from the conferences at a rate determinedby the county council. The county council also shall pay a per diemfor expenses of not more than fifteen dollars ($15) a day for each dayor part of a day an authorized person is in attendance at a conference.

Authorization for attendance at conferences
Sec. 4. Authorization for attendance at the conferences by city,town, or county law enforcement officers, trainees, or applicantsshall be issued by the county auditor on recommendation of the
executive authority of the law enforcement agency, office, ordepartment to which the officer, trainee, or applicant belongs or hasapplied for membership.
