    Chapter 7. Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Unit defined
    Sec. 1. As used in this chapter, "unit" refers to the unit of servicesfor the deaf and hard of hearing established by IC 12-12-1-2.

IC 12-12-7-2
Services to be provided by unit
    Sec. 2. The unit shall do the following:
        (1) Refer individuals who are deaf and individuals who are hardof hearing to the appropriate agencies to serve the individuals'needs.
        (2) Coordinate state, local, and private efforts to serveindividuals who are deaf and individuals who are hard ofhearing.

Telecommunications device for the deaf; development andimplementation
    Sec. 3. The unit may develop and implement atelecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) telephone relayservice that operates twenty-four (24) hours a day.

Contracts for the provision of services
    Sec. 4. The division may contract for the services required by thischapter.

Board of interpreter standards
    Sec. 5. (a) As used in this section, "board" refers to the board ofinterpreter standards.
    (b) The unit shall establish a board of interpreter standards.
    (c) The unit and the board shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2creating standards (including ethical standards and grievanceprocedures) for interpreters and an enforcement mechanism for theinterpreter standards.
    (d) Funding for the board must come solely from the unit'sexisting budget.
