Chapter 10. Employment as Condition for Receipt of TownshipAssistance

Able-bodied assistance applicants to seek employment
Sec. 1. If a township assistance applicant is in good health or ifany members of the applicant's household are in good health, thetownship trustee, as administrator of township assistance, shallrequire the individuals who are able to work to seek employment.The township trustee shall refuse to furnish any township assistanceuntil the township trustee is satisfied that the township assistanceapplicant or members of the applicant's household are endeavoringto find work.

Assistance contingent on performance of work; exception
Sec. 2. If:
(1) a township assistance applicant is in good health and able towork; and
(2) either:
(A) the township trustee, as administrator of townshipassistance, offers employment to the township assistanceapplicant, regardless of whether the compensation for thework is in the form of money, house rent, or commoditiesconsisting of the necessaries of life; or
(B) employment at a reasonable compensation is offered byany other individual, governmental agency, or employer;
the township trustee, as administrator of township assistance, shallnot furnish township assistance to the applicant until the townshipassistance applicant performs the work or shows just cause for notperforming the work. However, a township assistance applicant maybe given admission to the county home, where the townshipassistance applicant shall be compelled to work.

Aid in securing employment; trustee
Sec. 3. A township trustee, as administrator of townshipassistance, shall make all possible efforts to secure employment foran able-bodied township assistance applicant in the township wherethe applicant resides.

Medical examination
Sec. 3.5. If a township assistance applicant or a member of the
applicant's household claims an inability to work due to health, thetownship trustee may require and provide for any medicalexamination necessary for the township trustee to determine whetherthe applicant or household member is able to perform work.

Aid in securing employment; township residents
Sec. 4. The township trustee may call upon residents of thetownship to aid in finding employment for a township assistanceapplicant who is able to work.
