Establishment of firefighting organization
    
Sec. 1. The department, acting through the director and the stateforester, shall establish and equip a firefighting organization withinthe division of forestry for the purpose of detecting, preventing,fighting, and controlling fires in state forest land. The departmentmay extend the same fire detection, prevention, fighting, and controlservices established to other state land under the department'ssupervision and control. The department may also establish the sameservices for land not owned by the state and not lying within a cityor town for the purpose of protecting the forests, fields, andgrassland of the state.

Rights and immunities
    
Sec. 2. In fighting fires under this chapter, the officers andemployees of the department have the following:
        (1) All the rights and immunities guaranteed to municipalfirefighters by law.
        (2) The right to enter upon the land of an individual, a firm, alimited liability company, a corporation, a municipalcorporation, a city, a town, a county, or the state to carry outtheir duties.
        (3) The authority to set back fires, dig trenches, cut lanes, anduse all other customary and accepted modern methods offirefighting on private land.
