    Chapter 8. Support of Nonmunicipal Hospitals in Anderson andTerre Haute

Application of chapter
    
Sec. 1. This chapter applies to a nonprofit hospital corporation:
        (1) in a city having a population of:
            (A) more than fifty-nine thousand seven hundred (59,700)but less than sixty-five thousand (65,000); or
            (B) more than fifty-nine thousand (59,000) but less thanfifty-nine thousand seven hundred (59,700);
        (2) in a county without a city or other public hospital;
        (3) that admits persons for care and treatment without regard torace, color, or religious creed;
        (4) the revenue of which derived from the care of persons ableto pay and from all other sources is expended in themaintenance and operation of the hospital and for the care ofpersons who are unable to pay to the extent of the hospital'sability to do so;
        (5) the revenue of which is insufficient to support and maintainthe hospital and enable the hospital to supply the need anddemand for hospital care and nursing in the city, either alone orin conjunction with other hospitals in the city; and
        (6) in a city that has no city hospital under the city's control thatis supported entirely by public money.

Hospital support and maintenance
    
Sec. 2. A city may do the following:
        (1) Appropriate money to the hospital for support andmaintenance.
        (2) Aid in the support of the hospital by the levy and collectionof a special tax, not exceeding two and thirty-three hundredthscents ($0.0233) on each one hundred dollars ($100) valuationof the taxable property of the city.
        (3) Give other aid and support in the maintenance of thehospital in the manner that the city fiscal body considers proper.

Appropriations; contracts
    
Sec. 3. The county fiscal body may appropriate money to aid inthe support of the hospital. The county executive and townshiptrustees of the county, with the consent of the township boards, maycontract with the officers of the governing body of the hospital forthe medical care and nursing of the poor of the county andtownships.As added by P.L.2-1993, SEC.6.
