    Chapter 9. Grants for Tuberculosis Programs

Grant recipients
    
Sec. 1. The state department may make grants of money from stateappropriated money to:
        (1) any county or counties jointly operating a local clinic ordispensary;
        (2) a sanatorium;
        (3) a hospital providing outpatient care; or
        (4) in a small community, a private physician;
for the treatment of persons suffering from or suspected of sufferingfrom tuberculosis, the contacts of such persons, positive reactors, andassociates of reactors.

Eradication programs
    
Sec. 2. A program of tuberculosis eradication includes allrecognized medical and public health activities necessary to thefinding, diagnosing, and treating of cases of tuberculosis. Such aprogram includes the following:
        (1) The establishment of outpatient care centers.
        (2) The provision of drugs and medications.
        (3) The follow-up of suspected cases of tuberculosis and thecontacts of individuals with tuberculosis.
        (4) The follow-up of all cases and contacts for the purpose ofassuring that such individuals remain under medicalsupervision.

Examination and treatment costs
    
Sec. 3. (a) Subject to subsection (b), the entire cost of theexamination and treatment of a patient at an outpatient tuberculosistreatment center shall be paid by the county of residence of thepatient if the patient is financially unable to do so.
    (b) The entire cost of examination and treatment under subsection(a) shall be reduced by five dollars ($5) per examination andtreatment. This amount represents a subsidy from the state in theinterests of the control of tuberculosis and the maintenance of publichealth.

Grant procedure
    
Sec. 4. Grants made under this chapter shall be made under thelaws and rules governing the action of both state and local (municipaland county) governmental units in these matters.As added by P.L.2-1993, SEC.29.

Rules
    
Sec. 5. The state department may adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 notinconsistent with this chapter for the administration of this chapter.

Appropriations
    
Sec. 6. There is annually appropriated to the state department asufficient amount from the state general fund for distribution to thecounties under section 3 of this chapter.
