Chapter 1. General Provisions

Application of chapter
Sec. 1. This chapter applies to all committees established underthis article.

"Committee"
Sec. 2. As used in this chapter, "committee" refers to acommission, a committee, or another body (however designated)established under this article.

Committee staffing
Sec. 3. Except as provided in this article, the legislative servicesagency shall provide staff support to a committee.

Committee member per diem
Sec. 4. Each member of a committee is entitled to receive thesame per diem, mileage, and travel allowances paid to individualswho serve as legislative and lay members, respectively, of interimstudy committees established by the legislative council.

Number of votes required to take action
Sec. 5. The affirmative votes of a majority of the voting membersappointed to a committee are required for the committee to takeaction on any measure, including the final report.

Committee operates under policies and rules of legislative council;exception
Sec. 6. Except as otherwise specifically provided by this article,a committee shall operate under the policies and rules of thelegislative council.

Payment of committee expenses
Sec. 7. All funds necessary for a committee to carry out itsfunctions shall be paid from appropriations to the legislative counciland the legislative services agency.

Interim and final reports
Sec. 8. A committee shall submit interim and final reports to thelegislative council in an electronic format under IC 5-14-6.

Expiration of committee; exception
Sec. 9. Except as otherwise provided by this article, the chapterthat establishes a committee expires January 1 of the second yearafter the chapter takes effect.
