"Academy"
    
Sec. 2. As used in this chapter, "academy" refers to the Indianaacademy for science, mathematics, and humanities established underthis chapter.

Academy; establishment as laboratory school
    
Sec. 3. Ball State University may establish the Indiana academyfor science, mathematics, and humanities as a laboratory schoolunder IC 20-24.5-2.

Academy; public residential school; educator program
    
Sec. 4. The academy shall operate:
        (1) a public, residential school for high school students inIndiana; and
        (2) a program for public school educators.

Student admissions
    
Sec. 5. (a) A student who applies for admission to the academymust:
        (1) be eligible to attend a public school in Indiana;
        (2) demonstrate exceptional intellectual ability; and
        (3) demonstrate a commitment to scholarship.
    (b) A student shall be admitted without regard to sex, race,religion, creed, national origin, or household income.

Advisory committee; standards; curriculum; educator program;agreements
    
Sec. 6. The academy shall:
        (1) establish an advisory committee that represents theeducation and business communities in Indiana;
        (2) determine the standards for admissions and the curricula andcourses of study to be offered;        (3) develop curriculum material for distribution and usethroughout the public school system;
        (4) develop programs to encourage interaction with publicschool educators;
        (5) make curriculum material available to students in publicschools throughout Indiana by the use of telecommunicationstechnology; and
        (6) establish cooperative arrangements with private and publicentities in order to effectively operate the academy.
