    Chapter 1. Definitions

IC 20-24-1-1
Applicability
    Sec. 1. The definitions in this chapter apply throughout thisarticle.

IC 20-24-1-2
"ADM of the previous year"
    Sec. 2. "ADM of the previous year" has the meaning set forth inIC 20-43-1-7.

"Charter"
    Sec. 3. "Charter" means a contract between an organizer and asponsor for the establishment of a charter school.

IC 20-24-1-4
"Charter school"
    Sec. 4. "Charter school" means a public elementary school orsecondary school established under this article that:
        (1) is nonsectarian and nonreligious; and
        (2) operates under a charter.

IC 20-24-1-5
"Conversion charter school"
    Sec. 5. "Conversion charter school" means a charter schoolestablished under IC 20-24-11 by the conversion of an existingschool into a charter school. The term includes a new school towhich students from other schools in the school corporation areassigned or transferred.

"Current ADM"
    Sec. 6. "Current ADM" has the meaning set forth inIC 20-43-1-10.

IC 20-24-1-7
"Organizer"
    Sec. 7. "Organizer" means a group or an entity that:        (1) has been determined by the Internal Revenue Service to beoperating under nonprofit status or has applied for suchdetermination; and
        (2) enters into a contract under this article to operate a charterschool.

"Proposal"
    Sec. 8. "Proposal" refers to a proposal from an organizer toestablish a charter school.

IC 20-24-1-9
"Sponsor"
    Sec. 9. "Sponsor" means, for a charter school, one (1) of thefollowing:
        (1) A governing body.
        (2) A state educational institution that offers a four (4) yearbaccalaureate degree.
        (3) The executive (as defined in IC 36-1-2-5) of a consolidatedcity.
