Chapter 6. County Scholars; Indiana University

Appointments
Sec. 1. The board of trustees and faculty of Indiana Universityshall appoint annually to Indiana University at least two (2) studentsor scholars from each county in Indiana.

Criteria for appointments
Sec. 2. Appointments of individuals under this chapter must bemade on the basis of scholarship and superior mental ability.

Conditions for appointed persons
Sec. 3. (a) Except as provided in subsection (b), an individualappointed under this chapter is entitled to enter, remain, and receiveinstruction in Indiana University for the next school year after theindividual's appointment under the same conditions, qualifications,and regulations prescribed for other applicants for admission to, orstudents in, Indiana University.
(b) A student attending Indiana University after appointmentunder this chapter may not be charged any contingent fees.

Appointments; applicability
Sec. 4. An appointment under this chapter may be made fromstudents:
(1) eligible to enter; or
(2) in attendance at;

Notice requirement; number of students attending free of tuition
Sec. 5. The secretary of the board of trustees of Indiana Universityshall notify the county auditor of a county whenever there are fewerstudents attending the university than the county is entitled to sendfree of tuition. Upon receiving the notice, the county auditor shallinform the board of commissioners of the county at the board ofcommissioners' next meeting.
