    Chapter 3. Board of Trustees

Board; continuance
    
Sec. 1. The board of trustees is subject to this chapter and all otherlaws governing the affairs of their predecessors.

Board; membership
    
Sec. 2. The board of trustees is composed of nine (9) members,appointed by the governor as follows:
        (1) Six (6) members who must be at large.
        (2) Two (2) members who must be alumni of Ball StateUniversity.
        (3) One (1) member who must be a Ball State Universitystudent.

Board; qualifications
    
Sec. 3. Not more than six (6) of the nonstudent members of theboard of trustees may be of the same sex. At least one (1) member ofthe board of trustees must be a resident of and reside in DelawareCounty.

Board; additional qualifications
    
Sec. 4. All members of the board of trustees must be:
        (1) residents of Indiana; and
        (2) citizens of the United States.

Search and screen committee; creation
    
Sec. 5. (a) To aid the governor in the selection of the studentmember, a search and screen committee is created. The search andscreen committee consists of the following:
        (1) One (1) representative of the governor.
        (2) At least four (4) students chosen by the elected studentgovernment representatives of the student body.
    (b) The search and screen committee shall establish the mode andcriteria to be used in the selection of student nominees to serve onthe board of trustees. The search and screen committee shall submita list of at least ten (10) names to the governor for the governor'sconsideration.
    (c) The governor shall select one (1) of these names forappointment as a member of the board of trustees in accordance with

this chapter.

Board; terms
    
Sec. 6. (a) The Ball State University alumni council shalldesignate the term and nominate a person for each of the two (2)alumni memberships on the board of trustees.
    (b) The Ball State University alumni council, through thepresident of Ball State University, shall submit the names of thenominees to the governor for the governor's immediate appointmentto the board of trustees.

Board; terms of alumni members
    
Sec. 7. At least thirty (30) days before the expiration of the termof an alumni member, the Ball State University Alumni Council, orits successor, must submit, through the president of Ball StateUniversity, the name of the nominee to succeed the retiring alumnimember. The governor shall appoint the nominee as an alumnimember of the board of trustees.

Terms
    
Sec. 8. (a) With the exception of the student member of the boardof trustees, all appointments to the Ball State University board oftrustees are for four (4) year terms. Each term of a nonstudent boardmember begins on January 1 of the appropriate year.
    (b) The term of a member continues until the member's successoris appointed and qualified.
    (c) The student member of the board of trustees is appointed fora two (2) year term. The student member's term begins on July 1 ofthe year in which the student member is appointed. The studentmember must be a full-time student at Ball State Universitythroughout the student member's term.

Board; vacancies
    
Sec. 9. A vacancy occurring on the board of trustees from death,incapacitation, or resignation shall be filled by appointment of thegovernor for the unexpired term. Vacancies in offices held by alumnimembers shall be filled from nominees submitted by the Ball StateUniversity alumni council.
