    Chapter 3. Board of Trustees

IC 21-21-3-1
Board; establishment
    Sec. 1. A bipartisan board of trustees is established for IndianaState University.

IC 21-21-3-2
Board; membership
    Sec. 2. The board of trustees is composed of nine (9) trusteesappointed by the governor as follows:
        (1) Seven (7) competent individuals, one (1) of whom must bea student.
        (2) Two (2) competent individuals who are alumni of IndianaState University nominated by the alumni council of IndianaState University.

Board; term
    Sec. 3. (a) Subject to subsection (b), the term of a trustee is four(4) years.
    (b) The term of a student trustee is two (2) years.

Search and screen committee; creation
    Sec. 4. (a) To aid the governor in the selection of the studentmember, a search and screen committee is created consisting of one(1) representative of the governor and at least four (4) studentschosen by the elected student government representatives of thestudent body.
    (b) The search and screen committee shall establish the mode andcriteria to be used in the selection of student nominees to serve onthe board of trustees.
    (c) The search and screen committee shall submit a list of at leastten (10) names to the governor for consideration.
    (d) The governor shall select one (1) of these names forappointment as a trustee of Indiana State University.

Board; appointment qualification
    Sec. 5. An individual appointed to the board of trustees must bea resident of Indiana and a citizen of the United States.

IC 21-21-3-6 Board; alumni appointment
    Sec. 6. An alumni member appointed to the board of trustees musthave completed a prescribed course of study by Indiana StateUniversity or one (1) of the following predecessors of Indiana StateUniversity:
        (1) Indiana State Normal School.
        (2) Indiana State Teachers College.
        (3) Indiana State College.

Board; student appointment
    Sec. 7. The student trustee appointed to the board of trustees mustbe a full-time student of Indiana State University during the studenttrustee's term.

Board; female appointment
    Sec. 8. At least one (1) woman must be on the board of trustees.

IC 21-21-3-9
Board; vacancies
    Sec. 9. (a) The governor shall fill a vacancy occurring in the boardof trustees from death, resignation, or removal from the state for theunexpired term of the retiring trustee.
    (b) The alumni council of Indiana State University shall nominatethe appointee to fill a vacancy caused by the loss of an alumnimember.
