    Chapter 3. Board of Trustees

Board; membership
    
Sec. 1. The board of trustees consists of ten (10) members, to beappointed for the term of service and in the manner provided by thischapter. The terms of all trustees terminate on July 1 of the year inwhich their terms of office expire.

Sec. 2. The governor shall appoint ten (10) trustees for PurdueUniversity for the term beginning on July 1 in conformity with thischapter.

Board; selection of members; meetings; vacancies
    
Sec. 3. (a) Three (3) members of the board of trustees shall beselected by the members of the Purdue alumni association. One (1)of the members must be a graduate of the school of agriculture. Allmembers of the board of trustees selected under this section must bemembers of the alumni association and graduates of PurdueUniversity.
    (b) At the annual meeting of the Purdue alumni association for theyear in which the term of office of any one (1) of the trusteesselected under this section expires, a successor shall be selected bythe members of the Purdue alumni association, in the manner that thePurdue alumni association prescribes. The president of the Purduealumni association shall certify all selections made by the Purduealumni association.
    (c) If, at any time, a vacancy occurs on the board of trustees,occasioned by the death, resignation, expiration of term, or otherwiseof any of the members of the board of trustees selected by themembers of the Purdue alumni association, the vacancy shall befilled by selection by the president of the Purdue alumni association.The member selected to fill a vacancy serves until the next annualmeeting of the Purdue alumni association when a successor to fill outthe unexpired term shall be selected in the manner provided insubsection (b). The member selected by the Purdue alumniassociation shall be appointed by the governor to fill out theunexpired term.

Sec. 4. Seven (7) of the trustees shall be appointed by thegovernor.As added by P.L.2-2007, SEC.264.

Board; appointments with agricultural pursuits
    
Sec. 5. Two (2) members of the board of trustees appointed by thegovernor must be involved in agricultural pursuits. One (1) of themembers of the board of trustees appointed by the governor must bea full-time student of Purdue University.

Search and screen committee; creation
    
Sec. 6. (a) To aid the governor in the selection of the studentmember, a search and screen committee is created consisting of:
        (1) one (1) representative of the governor; and
        (2) at least four (4) students chosen by the elected studentgovernment representatives of the student body, including atleast one (1) student from each campus of Purdue University,main and regional.
    (b) The search and screening committee shall establish the modeand criteria to be used in the selection of student nominees to serveon the board of trustees. The search and screening committee shallsubmit a list of the names of at least ten (10) individuals to thegovernor for the governor's consideration. The governor shall selectone (1) of these individuals for appointment as a student member ofthe board of trustees.

Board; terms
    
Sec. 7. All members of the board of trustees serve for three (3)years, except for the student member who serves for two (2) years.

Board; vacancies
    
Sec. 8. In case any vacancy occurs on the board of trustees byreason of the resignation, removal from the state, expiration of theterm of office, or otherwise of any of the trustees appointed by thegovernor, the vacancy shall be filled by the governor from therespective classes as provided in this section to serve only for theunexpired term.

Secretary; report of attendance
    
Sec. 9. The acceptance of an appointment by the governorsignifies that the appointee will give the appointee's best efforts tothe interests of Purdue University and that the appointee willregularly attend the meetings of the board of trustees. The secretary

of the board of trustees shall report the attendance of each meetingof the board of trustees to the governor. If a member is absent for two(2) consecutive meetings without sufficient excuse, it shall beconsidered sufficient cause for the governor to ask for the resignationof the member.
