    Chapter 3. Board of Trustees

Management of university
    
Sec. 1. The authority to manage the university is vested in theboard of trustees.

Board; membership
    
Sec. 2. The board of trustees consists of nine (9) members whoshall serve terms of four (4) years. However, the term of a studentmember of the board of trustees is two (2) years.

Board; residency requirement
    
Sec. 3. Each member of the board of trustees must be a citizen ofthe United States and a resident of Indiana.

Board; membership qualifications
    
Sec. 4. The board of trustees must include at least the following:
        (1) One (1) member who is an alumnus of the University ofSouthern Indiana or an alumnus of the regional campus.
        (2) One (1) member who is a full-time student in good standingenrolled in the University of Southern Indiana.
        (3) One (1) member who is a resident of Vanderburgh County.

Board; appointments
    
Sec. 5. (a) The governor shall appoint the members of the boardof trustees.
    (b) If a vacancy occurs during the term of any member, thegovernor shall appoint an individual to serve the unexpired term ofthe vacating member.

Screening committee; alumnus board membership; establishment
    
Sec. 6. (a) There is established a screening committee of theUniversity of Southern Indiana to nominate the alumnus member ofthe board of trustees.
    (b) The screening committee consists of five (5) membersappointed by the executive body of the university alumni associationdesignated by the board of trustees.
    (c) Within seventy-five (75) days after the date that a vacancy

occurs on the board of trustees for the alumnus member, thescreening committee shall submit a list of at least three (3) names ofeligible individuals to a person designated by the board of trustees.
    (d) When the names are received by the person designated by theboard of trustees, the designated person shall submit the names to thegovernor.
    (e) The governor shall appoint the alumnus member of the boardof trustees from the list of names submitted under subsection (d).However, if the governor does not receive the names of at least three(3) eligible individuals under subsection (d) within ninety (90) daysafter the alumnus member vacancy on the board occurs, the governormay appoint any individual who is otherwise eligible under thischapter to serve as the alumnus member of the board of trustees.

Screening committee; student board membership; establishment
    
Sec. 7. (a) There is established a screening committee of theUniversity of Southern Indiana for the purpose of nominating thestudent member of the board of trustees.
    (b) The screening committee consists of:
        (1) four (4) students enrolled in the university who areappointed by the student governing body designated by theboard of trustees; and
        (2) one (1) individual appointed by the governor.
    (c) Within seventy-five (75) days after the date that a vacancyoccurs on the board of trustees for the student member, the screeningcommittee shall submit a list of at least ten (10) names of eligibleindividuals to a person designated by the board of trustees.
    (d) When the names are received by the person designated by theboard of trustees, the designated person shall submit the names to thegovernor.
    (e) The governor shall appoint the student member of the boardof trustees from the list of names submitted under subsection (d).However, if the governor does not receive the names of at least ten(10) eligible individuals under subsection (d) within ninety (90) daysafter the date that the student member vacancy on the board oftrustees occurs, the governor may appoint an individual who isotherwise eligible under this chapter to serve as the student memberof the board of trustees.
