Chapter 3. Indiana Historical Society

Body politic and corporate; powers
Sec. 1. The Indiana historical society is a body politic andcorporate that may:
(1) have perpetual succession;
(2) hold, purchase, receive, enjoy and transfer any property, realand personal;
(3) have and use a common seal; and
(4) sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend and bedefended in all courts of judicature whatever.

Objects
Sec. 2. The objects of the society are:
(1) the collection and preservation of all materials calculated toshed light on the natural, civil, and political history of Indiana;
(2) the publication and circulation of historical documents;
(3) the promotion of useful knowledge; and
(4) the friendly and profitable intercourse of such citizens as aredisposed to promote these ends.

Annual meeting; governing body; election; resolutions
Sec. 3. (a) There shall be an annual meeting of the members of thesociety at a time and place to be specified in the bylaws.
(b) At each annual meeting one-third (1/3) of the members of thegoverning body shall be elected by the members of the society in amanner and for terms to be specified in the bylaws.
(c) The number of members of the governing body shall be fixedby the bylaws.
(d) The members of the society, at the annual meeting, may adoptsuch resolutions for the government of the society as they thinkproper and as are not inconsistent with this chapter and with the lawsand constitution of this state.

Bylaws
Sec. 4. (a) The governing body of the society may make suchbylaws as it thinks proper for the government of the society and forcarrying into effect the objects of the society not inconsistent withthis chapter or with any resolution that is adopted at an annual
meeting of the members of the society.
(b) The bylaws adopted by the governing body and a statement ofthe receipts and disbursements of the society shall be reported to theannual meetings of the society.

Delivery of laws and journals to society; delivery of books andother articles
Sec. 5. (a) The legislative services agency shall deliver to thesociety one (1) copy of the laws of this state and one (1) copy of thejournals of the senate and house of representatives, which arepublished each year.
(b) The secretary of state shall deliver to the society all books andother articles that have been or may be transmitted to his office forthe use of the society.
