Sec. 1. The board shall keep a record of the board's proceedingsand a record of each application for registration.

Qualifications for registration
    
Sec. 2. To qualify for registration as a land surveyor, an applicantmust meet the following conditions under either subdivision (1) or(2):
        (1) All of the following:
            (A) Graduation in an approved land surveying curriculum.
            (B) A specific record of at least four (4) years of experiencein land surveying work that is acquired subsequent tograduation and that indicates that the applicant is qualifiedto be placed in responsible charge of land surveying workrequiring the exercise of judgment in the application ofsurveying sciences to the sound solution of land surveyingproblems.
            (C) The successful passing of an examination underIC 25-21.5-6.
        (2) All of the following:
            (A) A specific record of at least eight (8) years of landsurveying education and experience in land surveying workthat indicates that the applicant has acquired knowledge andskill and practical experience in land surveying workapproximating that required for registration as a professionalland surveyor under subdivision (1).
            (B) The successful passing of an examination underIC 25-21.5-6.

Land-surveyor-in-training; conditions for certification
    
Sec. 3. (a) An applicant for certification as aland-surveyor-in-training must meet the following conditions undereither subdivision (1) or (2):
        (1) All of the following:
            (A) Graduation in an approved land surveying curriculum ofat least four (4) years.
            (B) The successful passing of a land-surveyor-in-trainingexamination under IC 25-21.5-6.
        (2) All of the following:
            (A) A specific record of at least four (4) years of surveyingeducation and experience in surveying work indicating thatthe applicant has acquired knowledge and skill

approximating that acquired through graduation in anapproved surveying curriculum of at least four (4) years.
            (B) The successful passing of a land-surveyor-in-trainingexamination under IC 25-21.5-6.
    (b) The board may waive the examination in granting a certificateof registration as a land surveyor to an applicant who has held anidentical certificate of registration under Indiana law.

Convictions; eligibility for registration or certification
    
Sec. 4. A person is not eligible for registration as a land surveyoror certification as a land-surveyor-in-training who has been convictedof any of the following:
        (1) An act that would constitute grounds for disciplinarysanction under IC 25-1-11.
        (2) A felony that has a direct bearing on the person's ability topractice competently.

Qualification of applicants; credit for education
    
Sec. 5. (a) In considering the qualifications of applicants,responsible charge of surveying teaching shall be construed asresponsible charge of surveying work.
    (b) An applicant who holds a degree of master of science of landsurveying or the equivalent degree from a curriculum in landsurveying approved by the board may be given a maximum credit ofone (1) year of experience in addition to the credit of four (4) yearsof education.
    (c) An applicant who holds a degree of doctor of philosophy orthe equivalent degree from a curriculum in land surveying approvedby the board may be given a maximum of credit of two (2) years ofexperience in addition to a credit of four (4) years of education.
    (d) Graduation in a course other than land surveying from acollege or university acceptable to the board may be considered asequivalent to two (2) years land surveying experience and education.

Persons not in land surveying work; eligibility for registration
    
Sec. 6. A person having the necessary qualifications prescribed inthis chapter who is entitled to registration is eligible for registrationalthough the person may not be engaged in land surveying work atthe time of application.

Forms for application    Sec. 7. Each person applying for registration as a land surveyor orfor certification as a land-surveyor-in-training must apply on a formprescribed and provided by the board.

Sec. 8. Each application for registration as a land surveyor mustcontain the following:
        (1) Statements showing either the registration number issued byanother state or the education and qualifications of theapplicant.
        (2) A detailed summary of the technical work performed by theapplicant, including a confirmation by the registered landsurveyor who supervised the work. If the summary of thetechnical work cannot be confirmed because of conditionsbeyond the control of the applicant, including death,incompetence, or nonregistration by the supervising landsurveyor, the board may allow the confirmation requirement tobe fulfilled through other evidence.
        (3) The names of five (5) persons to be used as references, atleast three (3) of whom must be registered land surveyors whohave a personal knowledge of the experience of the applicant.

Sec. 9. Each application for certification as aland-surveyor-in-training must contain the following:
        (1) Statements showing the education of the applicant.
        (2) The names of three (3) persons to be used as references.However, references are not required for an applicant who isenrolled as a senior in an approved land surveying curriculumin Indiana and has applied to take the basic disciplines part ofthe examination described in IC 25-21.5-6-1 when theexamination is scheduled to be given at the applicant'sinstitution before the end of the applicant's senior year.
        (3) An applicant who has not graduated from an approved landsurveying curriculum must submit a detailed summary of thetechnical work performed by the applicant, including aconfirmation by the registered land surveyor who supervised thework. If the technical work summary cannot be confirmedbecause of conditions beyond the control of the applicant,including death, incompetence, or nonregistration by thesupervising land surveyor, the board may allow theconfirmation requirement to be fulfilled through other evidence.

Contents of references for land surveyor applicant orland-surveyor-in-training applicant
    
Sec. 9.5. A reference for a land surveyor applicant or aland-surveyor-in-training applicant must:
        (1) contain the applicant's board assigned number; and
        (2) be dated within one (1) year of the application.

Certification of correct statements; penalty for false statements
    
Sec. 10. (a) An applicant must certify the correctness of thestatements in the application.
    (b) A person who knowingly makes a false statement in anapplication commits a Class A misdemeanor.
