    Chapter 6.5. Certified Election Worker Program

Sec. 1. The certified election worker program is established.

Contents of program courses
    
Sec. 2. The program must consist of courses in several aspects ofprecinct election administration, including the following:
        (1) The duties of precinct election officers and county electionofficials.
        (2) The laws governing activity permitted and prohibited inpolling places.
        (3) The laws and procedures governing the operation of votingsystems.
        (4) The laws governing voter registration, absentee ballots,provisional ballots, and the tabulation of ballots.
        (5) Effective communication and problem solving techniques.

Administration of program; certification of individuals whocomplete program
    
Sec. 3. The secretary of state:
        (1) shall administer the program; and
        (2) may establish procedures and requirements for thecertification of an individual who satisfactorily completes theprogram.

Expiration of certification; renewal
    
Sec. 4. The designation of an individual as a certified electionworker expires January 1 of the fourth year following theindividual's certification. The individual's certification may berenewed by the secretary of state after compliance with therequirements for renewal established under this chapter.
